Rachel Antonoff Spring 2012: Minnie Mouse & Wednesday Addams

25 September 2011

I found the article about Rachel Antonoff's collection in NYFW through modaCycleHabitually Chic and I was instanlty attracted to the designs, the artwork, the hair and the whole mood. She claims her inspiration was Minnie Mouse fused with Wednesday Addams - she'd had me at this line!! These charecters may be tottally irrelevant but Antonoff managed to work the magic! When asked to describe a typical night in the Antonoff Manor,  fully illustrated by Alia Penner, she easily exclaimed “well, they’re getting ready to murder off their pets and they’re preparing their pet cemetery. I think they’re being really creepy in there.” Looking shy and innocent? I don't think so! Besides the whole idea behind the collection I think it is an amazing way to show off a collection instead of catwalk - more affordable for the designers, more creative for us!

she smelled of roses
and fresh coffee and rain

18 September 2011

She has a new diary to write about shimmering dreams and first raindrops  of autumn and new books to get lost, one imaginary world after the other.

Her kitchen smells of tea or coffee - it depends on her mood. Sometimes it smells like vanilla. She leaves gold dust in her footsteps and weaves sun rays on the curtains.

Once in a while she picks flowers and put them on pillows - she realized they feed on dreams and don't die this way. She makes presents and little candies, she write love letters and lists of things that shouldn't be forgotten.

Her moon is always full.

In a bowl, work the butter with the sugar, add one egg at a time, add the grated zest of  lemon and salt. Sift in the flour and baking powder combining with the yogurt one at a time just until the mixture is quite thick. Pour into pre-buttered and floured pan. Halve the strawberries, place them on the surface of the cake and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake in a preheated oven at about 180 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Banana bread - gluten free by Brunch at Saks

1 1/2 cups gluten free all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder (Rumford is aluminum/gluten -free )
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 ripe bananas, mashed
2 eggs, room temperature
1 cup sugar (or agave/sugar sub would work)
1/2 cup canola oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or 1 scraped vanilla bean)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Gently whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in large bowl.
In a separate bowl, mash bananas and add in eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla. Mix well.
Pour wet ingredients into dry, and mix just enough until incorporated. Be careful to not over mix! Gluten free flours do best just barely incorporated, otherwise the final product will be spongy.
Pour into a parchent lined or greased bread loaf pan.
Cook 45 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

p.s. What do you think of my new layout!? I have some problems because it looks wrong in Firefox and Internet Explorer, still trying to find a way to correct it!
